started from the bottom, now where?
Have you ever tried to throw a piece of paper on the wall and hoped it would stay there? Most likely you haven’t. You need something to make it stick. The same applies to social media… Don’t expect to gain results if you post random, boring or irrelevant content here and there, or even every day. Companies, brands and yes, influencers NEED social media STRATEGIES. I repeat, Influencers NEED social media STRATEGIES. Just like a brand NEEDS a consistent look, feel and voice.
Here are my top tips to help you get started.
Consistency
Do you know the feeling when you reach out to someone and they respond a few times but then you don’t hear from them for over week and they just leave you hanging? It’s annoying! Your followers have the same feelings and once you finally start gaining followers, maintaining them is just as important.
Come up with a plan. How often you post really does matter. If you’re overwhelmed or don’t believe social media holds importance in your company or as an influencer (although I could prove you wrong on that for days) start off with at least three posts a week and make sure each week they are on the same days, i.e Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. This helps build trust and let’s them know, you’ll be there when you say you will.
Theme
Urban dictionary defines theme as the second most important piece of the puzzle in social media. I’m actually kidding about Urban’s definition, but it is very important.
Do you ever wonder why a page with awful photos is doing better than a page with amazing photos? It’s probably because the page with awful pictures has a theme. If you are a fishing company you wouldn’t post about New York Fashion Week. If you’ve branded yourself a dog lover you wouldn’t post a photo of a moose. Figure out how you want your page to flow and again, stick to it.
(Please don’t post low quality photos, that was not my point!)
This is where I am really going to dig in for you guys! 100% of you voted you wanted to know more! You asked, I answered!
Pick your brand colors, and stick to it! Think about what inspires you the most! For me it was sunsets, soft colors, clean sheets, the ocean, bright clear days, a clean environment! I took those things and centered my brand around them: pink, blue, white and gray!! Even my clean logo represents my theme!
So tell me, what inspires you the most? Are you having trouble answering this question? Then look around your room, your house and take note of the colors you own the most, what the things in your house represent, and go from there etc.
(This will also make it easier to post because you will have the colors surrounding you and can snap quick photos if you need).
Once you have your brand colors picked out…. stick to them!!!
Props
Now that you have your colors picked out, go to the craft store and find some fun props + photo backdrops! I love using a white star fish in my photos and foam boards! I even noticed my wardrobe colors have shifted more towards my theme too. Call me crazy haha
Edit
Always edit your photos the same. Whether that is a Lightroom present, a VSCO filter or app on your phone:
For me, it’s a mix between Lightroom and C1 on VSCO!
Engagement
You meet someone at a coffee shop and have similar interests. You find yourselves laughing and already feel comfortable around each other. Thinking this person could be a great friend, you exchange numbers. But then you never hear from them again. Step up! Do you expect to grow the friendship without them? If you don’t reach out, the friendship will never go anywhere. Actively engaging with your followers and target audience is crucial to keeping your social media thriving.
Like, comment, repost, retweet, reply and do it all in the name of friendship.
What are your tips or pages you’ve seen doing this well? Want me to write more on this topic, think how to find the right hashtags? The power of DM’s and push notifications? Comment here or on my latest Instagram post @changebeautiful.
